Moving Thoughts — Finding Your Spark
Well, we’re back to another season.
I’m officially entering year 28 as a student in the dance industry and year 16 as a teacher, and honestly, I’m just really happy to be back in a new season.
I’ve realized over the last year or so that I am drastically different when I’m not dancing. Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but truly, when I’m not dancing, it’s like I’m missing my spark. That little thing that makes me overly giddy and excited. It’s hard to describe, but the people closest to me can always tell when it’s missing. Something just feels a little… off.
So why am I writing about this?
Because sometimes the unconventional thing is actually the thing that brings you back to yourself.
And sometimes finding that spark comes with a cost. It might mean trying something that doesn’t fit the path you thought you were supposed to take. It might mean starting over. It might mean being a beginner again. Or maybe it’s simply doing the thing that makes you feel like you — even if you haven’t done it in what feels like a lifetime.
And if you’re going to be terrible at it at first? Who cares.
That’s the beauty of learning. Of trying. Of giving yourself permission to be new at something.
I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to already be good at the things we do, that we forget there is so much joy in figuring it out along the way.
So, a little reminder — trust yourself.
There is so much more you can handle than you probably give yourself credit for when you approach it with the right mindset.
Just a short one today, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot since returning to the studio.
Here’s to finding your spark again — whatever that looks like for you.
